near Terra Nova National Park, Eastern Newfoundland

Theme: Adventure and Exploration
In the Footsteps of Captain Bob Bartlett
*

As Council Commissioner and Camp Chief, I am pleased to announce that a four-day, three-night camp is planned for Cubs, Scouts and Venturers. Each section will have its own program, all designed for youth and their leaders to have fun, learn a few things and feel the spirit of adventure and challenge illustrated by famed Newfoundland Arctic explorer Captain Bob Bartlett during the 100th anniversary of Capt. Bob Bartlett’s 1909 expedition to the North Pole. Bob Bartlett was awarded membership in the first group of Honorary Scouts of the Boy Scouts of America in 1927*.

The camp is open to all Scouting Groups including the USA. Each participating group will come self-contained and set up tents on the over 100 permanent camp sites at Camp Nor’Wes. This large site is the home of some of the best sandy beaches in Newfoundland and the best mud holes around.

Groups interested in participating should contact the Newfoundland and Labrador Council Office at scoutscanada@nf.aibn.com and give their contact information and estimated numbers. No fees have yet been set but it will be less than $100 per person. Regular news items and updates will be sent out by email to all Newfoundland and Labrador groups and other interested groups and will also be posted here on the Council web page.

Volunteer Offers of Service are also required. Anyone interested should also contact Joss at the Council office by email (scoutscanada@nf.aibn.com) or phone (709-722-0931). Everyone with any kind of skill from potato peeling to canoeing to rock climbing is needed.

Below are location and site maps and the Google Earth satellite photo of the site.

Participating groups can extend their stay at Camp Nor’Wes at no extra charge and use it as a base to take in the attractions found in and around Terra Nova National Park and Golf Course and the various other local attractions in the Bonavista Bay and Trinity Bay areas such as whale-watching, boat tours, historic sites, salmon fishing, fun parks.
