Overview
Thank you. Thank you to the many parents and youth who chose to have Beavers, Cubs, Scouts, Ven turers and Rovers as a significant part of their lives this year. Thank you to those adults, often parents, who gave so freely of their time to ensure that on one night, every week of the year, there was a planned and exciting program waiting for the youth in their care. And thank you once again to those parents, youth and leaders, who gave so freely throughout out the year to enhance the programs offered in their section with outings, visits and outdoor experiences.
Significant resources are needed to support the programs we offer throughout the province. The re cruitment, retention and development of our youth and training adult leaders to provide our programs in a safe and educational environment is always our goal. This support is provided by thoughtful, caring and support ive families, leaders, families and community spon sors. Scouting demonstrates the trust Scouting has in providing the development opportunities of our youth.
Adult recruitment, indeed the challenge of finding more adults to offer their time to support our programs in our large and small communities, is seriously jeop ardizing our ability to provide programming in our province. Most of you reading this report will know how much easier your time as a volunteer would be if just one other person came forward to offer to help with program, fundraising or just that special outing. Of course, we realize that as our youth population declines, so does our volunteer base; however, we must continue to demonstrate that we are, and will remain, a wonderful part of the life of youth and adults in our province. We all know the challenges of having youth return each year to our sections. Many reasons are given as to why youth seek other options; how ever, often it is as simple as "I just didn't hear when the section was restarting." It is a challenge we all need to address to increase our retention level.
Youth membership remains the number one priority of your Council. As a group, each of us is commit ted to bringing all seven of Scouts Canada's programs to our young people. With your support, we will con tinue our service to youth as we near one hundred years of service to youth.
